As Chief Revenue Officer at Smith + Howard, Russ Kanner leads the firm’s business development and go-to-market strategy, helping shape how the firm connects with clients, expands into new markets, and builds lasting relationships. He oversees a growing team focused on generating new business, driving cross-functional collaboration across practice areas, and identifying strategic opportunities to fuel the firm’s continued growth.
Russ plays a key role in the firm’s broader growth function—led by the company’s Chief Growth Officer—which includes marketing, M&A, go-to-market, and business development. While he contributes to M&A initiatives, his primary focus is on revenue generation through client engagement strategies, office integration, and market expansion planning.
Prior to moving into this leadership role, Russ built a strong foundation in Smith + Howard’s assurance practice, where he served as a senior manager working with clients across a range of industries. His background in client service informs his collaborative, consultative approach to business development—an interest he has pursued since early in his career.
Russ is deeply involved in the Atlanta business community. Currently, he serves on the board of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and participates in regional economic development and nonprofit initiatives.
