Scott Whalen became a partner at Smith and Howard effective January 1, 2021.

“Scott has been an integral member of our tax group since he started as an intern in 2008. His ability to help our clients navigate complex tax issues has helped elevate the firm’s standing. Just as importantly, he helps our clients strategize for the future through comprehensive tax planning and consulting,” said Marc Azar, Partner and Tax Practice Leader.

Scott is a long-standing member of the firm’s manufacturing/distribution and technology teams. Beyond his specialization in those two industry areas, he also works with clients across the entertainment, hospitality, staffing and transportation industries. Scott focuses on clients with international tax issues in addition to providing accounting method expertise alongside transaction advisory services.

“As Smith and Howard grows, young partners like Scott, who are innovative and passionate about client service, will drive our performance, allowing us to continue our history of high performance,” said Sean C. Taylor, Managing Partner.

Scott received his Bachelor of Science from Georgia Tech and Master of Taxation from Georgia State University.

Scott is coming into the partner group at a time when our day-to-day lives – at home and work – can be particularly challenging. We thought the “many masks” of Scott would be a fun way to acknowledge the move from the traditional new partner photo to a socially distanced look more indicative of the times. Enjoy!
