James Purgason

James came to Smith + Howard with previous experience at two top-100 accounting firms. His practice primarily revolves around mergers and acquisitions, private equity, real estate and high net worth individuals.

James spent 10 years in public accounting and also served two years as CFO for a private equity commercial real estate investment firm. Prior to beginning his professional career, James served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and served in Afghanistan.

James is a diehard Atlanta Braves fan who enjoys sitting on boards of directors of for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises, as well as spending time with his three children, Beau, Jackson and Stevie.
