Marvin joined the firm in 1999. He is Partner in charge of our Accounting & Advisory Group and a member of our Audit and Construction teams. Marvin oversees the firm’s Enterprise Risk Solutions and Red Flag Reporting services, Smith & Howard’s 24/7 ethics and fraud hotline for clients. Prior to joining Smith & Howard, Marvin spent several years as CFO of a large Atlanta business. He has extensive experience in accounting, auditing, information systems, business management and consulting. Marvin’s background as CFO and his financial knowledge provide tremendous value to our clients in the areas of SOC engagements, internal control reviews, enterprise risk, corporate governance, general business advice, accounting and technology services.

Marvin received a BBA in accounting from Georgia State University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA). Marvin is a Certified CSF Practitioner (CCSFP) and a Certified HITRUST Quality Professional (CHQP); both designations are a culmination of a rigorous certification process by HITRUST.  In addition, he is a Certified Information Technology Professional, as designated by the AICPA. This credential certifies that he is recognized for his unique, multi-disciplinary perspective, his technology expertise and his ability to bridge the gap between business and technology. Marvin is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) which demonstrates management accounting expertise, determination and commitment to achieving sustainable business success.

As a member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, Marvin serves on the Board of Directors as Ex-Officio Member of the Executive Committee. He is an alumnus of Leadership Gwinnett, and is an active member of the Georgia Chapter, Associated General Contractors. Marvin serves on the Board of Directors for the Forsyth Chamber of Commerce, the National Editorial Board of The Contractor, a newsletter for construction business executives and on the BDO Alliance Construction Accounting Network Board of Directors.  He is Chairman of the Finance Committee of Buford First United Methodist Church and is on the Board of Governors for the University Yacht Club.

Marvin and his wife live on Lake Lanier. They are active members of Buford First United Methodist Church. When not working, he spends time fishing and bicycling.
