We have reported previously on the rising price of copper and the subsequent rise in copper theft. A recent report shows that as the price of copper and other raw materials have increased, so have the prices for electrical wire and cable (which contain copper) – by as much as 17 percent in January 2007, compared to a year earlier. Also of significance is the recent news that U.S. producer prices for construction machinery increased 3.2 percent in February of this year, compared to a year earlier. Even modest increases can be significant on high-end equipment.
