Smith & Howard's 2017 Community Involvement
Smith & Howard’s Statement of Purpose reads, “We exist to be valuable to our clients, our people and our community.” No one can argue that without clients who find our services valuable or highly skilled and valued employees to serve those clients well, our company cannot exist. But what does it mean to be valuable to the community?
At Smith & Howard, we believe in giving back to the community around us. Here are just some examples of where we used our time, talent and treasure to enrich our community and the people within it.
Barack and Michelle Obama Academy
We hosted holiday parties for three 2nd grade classrooms at the Barack and Michelle Obama Academy (formerly known as D. H. Stanton School). We make the holiday “wish list” for these children come true.
Atlanta Habitat for Humanity & Restore
Smith & Howard sponsored and participated in a home build with the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity & Restore. We bonded while helping a single mom become the first person in her family to own a home.
United Way of Greater Atlanta
Several occasions throughout 2017, Smith & Howard employees ventured to the Garden Hills Elementary School to participate with first and second graders in the United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Monday Reading Program.
In June, we hosted our annual Chefs for Shep cookout for the patients and caregivers at the Shepherd Center. The Shepherd Center is a private, nonprofit hospital specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, spine and chronic pain, and other neuromuscular conditions.
Lifeline Animal Project
A group of Smith & Howard employees arrived at Lifeline Animal Project loaded up with food, toys, treats and supplies for the animals. They spent the morning helping the shelter get ready for the week and then had the opportunity to meet some of the resident cats and take a few lucky dogs on a walk around Avondale Estates.
Atlanta Community Foodbank
Teamwork makes the dream work! The Smith & Howard crew packed 8,468 lbs of food at the Atlanta Community Foodbank that will feed over 5,000 people.
This past January, our intern group spent a day together sorting medical supplies with Medshare. Medshare is a humanitarian aid organization that collects surplus medical supplies and equipment and then redistributes them to communities in need around the world.
We are actively planning out 2018 community service activities, and we are looking forward to another year full of opportunities to serve our neighbors and to give back to our surrounding communities.
